Internet: Boon or Bane?!
A sixteen-year-old boy from a very renowned family committed suicide. One month before this day he had come back home from juvenile detention. He molested a girl when he was fourteen years old and just got out after paying two years of his life in the juvenile detention. He was a changed person after that. He wanted to start afresh and wanted to achieve success in his life. Moreover, he wanted to become a good human being. He opened his Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms and saw all the hatred people had sent him. He thought that it will be over now, but people were not letting him start his life. They were sending him threats, hateful messages over social media. He was sixteen years old, he wanted to change, the girl had forgiven him, but the world was not letting him live, he died.
Now there can be many perspectives for this story. Some can say that he deserved it. But who are you to decide whether he deserved it or not? Who are you to troll him in social media? Who are you to not let him live? He had already paid for his crimes by being in juvenile detention for two years. That girl had moved on and forgiven him too. Then who are you to murder that kid? Well, the internet does that. Let me tell you another real story.
My friend from college told me that she was from a very small village and never expected that she would be studying in such a prominent college in a big city like Mumbai. Their village had a very limited network with five hours of electricity and no proper tuition or school. She was here because of the internet. She was introduced to an online class which turned out to be so great that she topped in her district. And just like that, the right use of the internet got her here.
Now coming to the topic, for me, the internet is a boon and not a bane. I pencil down my thoughts and share with you through the internet. I am taking my higher education entrance exam coaching online again with the help of internet. I am also gaining work experience even in this situation of the pandemic with the convenience of the home through the internet. I am promoting the thoughts in which I believe through my social media handles which is not possible without the internet.
So to be honest with you guys, I think it is more of what you want the internet to be? A boon or a bane? Always remember, life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you. Now I leave it up to you guys to make the right decision by making the internet a boon and not a bane.
